Hi Richard:

I was doing a radio interview ( http://shows.weru.org/archives/
specials/specialkobutsu-20060726 ) with death row activist and Roshi,
Kobutsu Malone, last summer and do talk to him periodically. He had
already seen the domination of Christian laity at Sing Sing and other
prisons where they have successfully removed Buddhist literature as a
form of occultism. There also was a significant purge after it was
discovered that the NY state prison system was favoring radical
Muslim teachers over the more middle-of-the-road types. It took some
phone calls and letters, but eventually he was able to get the banned
books back in the prison libraries. His own book on starting and
maintaining Zendos in prisons and the use of meditative training in
lieu of death sentences was also banned but recently reinstated.

If you want to know any of the gritty details of this type of thing,
this is the man to talk to.
