"In Tokyo, Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda said that he had spoken with his
Chinese counterpart, Wen Jiabao, and that they had agreed to work together
on international efforts to solve the crisis.

"I asked that China, given its close ties with Myanmar, exercise its
influence, and Prime Minister Wen said he would make such efforts," Mr.
Fukuda said."

As they say down by the ice cream shop, rotsa ruck.

Today's NYTimes has a pretty good update on Burma. Incidentally the shooting
of the Japanese photographer was captured on video -- it played last night
on the evening news (might be on Youtube by now). Japan and China are
already co-operating on this. Monks have been hauled away, probably with
some brutality, and disorganized pockets of civilians are being suppressed.
