Thanks for posting these, Chris. If the archives of buddha-hell go back far 
enough, you'll see that I posted info and similar warnings some years ago, 
when initially an outcry went up that the Chinese company would destroy the 
Buddhist artifacts and history to more easily mine the area's resources. At 
that time the outcry was sufficient to force the Afghan govt. to temporarily 
suspend the destruction while "investigating" further, but with a deferred 
date for the destruction, not a promise to avoid it.

Now it looks like this December is D-Day (destruction day). Once done, 
irreversible, lost and gone forever, like the rest of Central Asian 
Buddhism...

Perhaps another outcry can at least delay it further.

(Problem is, neither the Afghans nor the Chinese have any shame; Karzai and 
his cronies can't stop drooling when a dollar bill is in the room.)
