[Buddha-l] Sangharakshita's memoir

I just read through the link Piya supplied, also this one
http://www.ex-cult.org/fwbo/ , and an old article from Tricycle
(1999) that came out in response to the original online FWBO
files and their eventual reply to them.

My view on all this, considering that I brought up
Sangharakshita's Memoir and got various responses, is this:
It seems to me that it's an obvious fact that same-sex
organizations attract homosexuals, a fact that is backed up by
history and literature from around the world. No surprise.
Choosing to remain in an organisation that has exploited those
who complained about it seems to me to be a choice that some
made, others didn't.

The accounts available in the links noted certainly back up this
observation. Besides the sociological fact of the proclivities of
same-sex monasticism, the exposure of Sangharakshita's views on
kalyanamitra have been revealed as utterly self-serving. Q.E.D.

I offer these remarks to make it clear that I wasn't being gulled
into admiration of S. simply by reading his Memoir!

Best,
Joanna

In addition to what Bruce has mentioned, here is Yashomitra's
cathartic
statement:

I see all this as an echo of the sad situations with Trungpa,
Baker and others in the US. A number of healing papers have been
written about them by the "victims."

The great thing is there is an open forum on these clay-feet
idols, so that we learn a thing or two for ourselves,

Piya
