Why not 'condition [ones own] mind' otherwise? Simply value and
emulate rational wisdom around one, be 'it' ancient or avant
garde.

OK, ancient, avant garde-------how about scientific?

The creationists like to claim that evolution theory is
unprovable, but neglect to notice that their theories based on
the Book of Genesis are even more unprovable.
The scientific process leads to new discoveries; the Biblical
process leads to itself.
Even if it is all 'ultimately' delusionary, which I doubt--being
subject to investigative revision at all times-- scientific
investigation is less boring than sacred textual repetition and
validation.

Where is the joy in proving that the Buddha's ideas about
earthquakes and Mt Meru were "accurate"? He became a swami to his
flock, and to the other flocks who contested his spiritual
prowess.
So, like many another swami, he pronounced on many things
unrelated to his spiritual vocation.
(The custom of the times was, if a devotee asks a question, the
swami must answer--until devotees began following maunis, who
refused talk. Not a bad idea. )
